The interest in integrated bottom brackets is growing and big manufacturers introduce their own new standards to the market. Earlier we presented BB-30 standard and all the advantages that it provides. However, that is old news as we got 3 other bottom bracket standards introduced to the market: PressFit 30, PressFit BB86/PressFit BB92 and BB90. We support all of them and all our frames can be ordered with any of these standards, except BB90.

However we want to publish our view of these standards and if you are new to this, you might find it useful to read further.

All bottom brackets with the new standards are internal bottom brackets, which are pressed into the frame. But all of them are different and the frame bb shell needs to be manufactured specifically for it. BB-30 and PressFit 30 can be used only with the new standard cranks which have different axle profiles than the standard ones. Meanwhile, PressFit BB86/PressFit BB92 is compatible with the standard cranks. The main disadvantage of BB-30 is that the bearings are pressed directly into the titanium frame shell and the shell needs critical tolerance. Moreover, the titanium shell is way harder than the alu bearing spindle and after a couple of assemblies will start to creak. Therefore, we would suggest using PressFit 30 or PressFit BB86/PressFit BB92 as they have a nylon sleeve bearing protection and will last longer. The choice is yours, but now you have our opinion.

You can download the technical data here.

Due to the increasing inquiries concerning the new bottom bracket standard BB-30, we are one of the first in the market to start producing frames compatible with this new international standard. The first frames have been made already last year. The frames have been tested in laboratories and on the roads. The results are positive and test riders bring only good impressions. Therefore, from now on we are offering all our frame models with this new international standard. We are glad to be among the top 5 frame producers on the market to offer this new international standard to you!

The main advantages of BB-30 are:

- BB-30 is lighter: by eliminating the bottom bracket cups and using an alloy spindle, the weight of the crank and bottom bracket assembly can be reduced by up to 12%;
- BB-30 is narrower: with the bearings inside the BB shell, the width of the crank at the spindle is reduced, increasing ankle clearance;
- BB-30 is stiffer: the oversized spindle increases the stiffness of the crankset;
- BB-30 durability is longer: BB-30 bearings are significantly larger than those used in other systems, resulting in longer bearing life.

This new international standard has been strongly supported by FSA. They redesigned their most popular cranksets to fit this new standard. These cranksets are K-Force Light, SL-K Light and Gossamer for road bicycles, and K-Force, Afterburner and V-Drive for mountain bicycles.
